The Costs of mediation
The cost of mediation depends on your situation and the number of sessions required. During the introductory meeting, you will receive a clear estimate of the total costs in advance, so that you know what to expect.
Hourly rate
Mediation is usually billed on an hourly basis. This rate applies to all sessions and the elaboration of the agreements in the parenting plan and settlement agreement. In most cases, a divorce process consists of 5-9 sessions.
What will my divorce cost?
An average divorce process via mediation typically costs between €2,200 and €3,500. The final costs depends on the complexity of the situation, the communication between the parties, and the number of sessions required. Mediation is often significantly cheaper than using two lawyers. Because you go through a single process together, the costs remain somewhat manageable.
Subsidized mediation (addition)
In some cases, you may be eligible for subsidized legal aid, also known as a “legal aid grant.” The government then pays part of the costs of the mediation.
During the introductory meeting, I can review with you whether you qualify for this and what that specifically means for you.
Good to know:
Legal expenses insurance?
Do you have legal expenses insurance? Mediation is sometimes covered by legal expenses insurance policies. Sometimes there may be a waiting period; it may be worth checking this thoroughly.
Expert advice?
In some cases, particularly during divorce mediation, a situation may be so complex that it is advisable to consult an expert. Examples include a tax expert, a notary, or a child psychologist. In these cases, where necessary, I attend these appointments at a €0 rate.
The costs for engaging the expert are not included in my hourly rate.
